DOMESTIC LIVING IN A FRAGMENTED URBAN ENVIRONMENT

Housing, in partnership with Chris Tomasetti

South Bronx, New York

2014

This project addresses both the urban and intimate conditions of living in the South Bronx by considering urban living as fragmented moments of transition and repose.

The project aims for an architectural density with a domestic quality of living.

Our design is driven by: the site’s edge condition, porous massing for open air communal spaces, and shared wintergardens as buffers between the inside and outside conditions.

Living in New York City consists of fragmented moments ranging from:

Where you sleep to  ---  Where you commute to  ---  Where you work to  ---  Where you play

And at the scales of:

the City  ---  the Neighborhood  ---  the Waterfront  ---  the Site
